Start with the official checklist.

The Georgian agency's overview lists:

  • A joint written application.
  • Identity documents for both partners and witnesses.
  • Proof that a previous marriage ended, when applicable.
  • For foreign citizens, evidence of lawful stay in Georgia.

Both partners must be at least 18. Registration requires their attendance and two legally capable adult witnesses; registration by proxy is not permitted.

Review the couple's circumstances together.

Begin with the nationality, travel document and country of residence of each person. Also identify the country and organization where you plan to use the marriage certificate. These details help distinguish preparation for registration from preparation for a later use abroad.

Keep a separate section for each partner and a third section for shared information. Use clear file names identifying the person and document type. A tidy file helps prevent mix-ups during translation and coordination.

Confirm the need before ordering a translation.

The agency may accept a foreign passport without Georgian translation when its personal details have Latin transliteration. Other foreign-issued documents require legalization or apostille and a notarized Georgian translation under its published guidance.

For each document, ask which authority needs it, which language it accepts and which authentication is required. If the same document has two different purposes, check both before paying for a service.

Compare Latin name spellings, dates and the information in the translation with the original. Ask whether all pages, stamps or explanatory notes need to be covered. Raise inconsistencies before selecting one spelling for later documents.

Flag a previous marriage or a name difference early.

A short description in the first enquiry can identify a point that needs more review. Explain whether either partner was previously married, has changed their name or uses different spellings across documents. State the country that issued the relevant record.

Keep preparation for Georgia separate from any question about recognition of a previous divorce or use of records in another country. Ask the authority responsible for the later process what it requires. The international certificate guide explains how to frame these questions.

A final check before travel.

  • Compare the confirmed document list with the originals you have.
  • Identify unfinished items and allow time to resolve them.
  • Check that scans show the complete document and its important details.
  • Confirm the kind of translation and the authority receiving it.
  • Clarify which originals must be brought and how documents will be returned.
  • Confirm the visit location, witnesses and interpreting arrangements.
  • Check entry requirements separately through the GeoConsul portal or the official Georgian e-Visa portal.

Keep identity records out of public comments and group chats. Start with a general description; send sensitive documents only after their purpose and a suitable transfer method are agreed.

For the travel schedule and a clear service estimate, continue to the costs and timing guide.

Discuss your circumstances before ordering services.

Share both nationalities, approximate travel dates and the country where you will use the certificate. Support is available in Georgian, Persian and English.
